How To Use Refractory Castables

Nov 15, 2023

1. Mix

First add the large bag of materials to the mixer, then add the small bag of materials, dry for 1-2 minutes, then add about 90% of the water and mix for 2-3 minutes. When adding water and stirring, the wet mixing time should be no less than 5 minutes. The remaining water volume is adjusted according to the situation. When you need to continue adding water, continue stirring for 1-2 minutes after adding water. Use a weigher when adding water to ensure the strength of the material.

2. Pouring construction

The mixed castable should be poured quickly, and the mixed castable should be poured into the mold, generally within 20 minutes. When the surface of the castable is flooded and flowing, move the vibrating rod. The vibration should be carried out mechanically with a portable vibrator and combined with manual mashing. The moving speed is 1-2 meters/minute. The vibration time should not be too long, nor should there be leakage or excessive vibration. After the vibration is completed, when pulling out the vibrator, the speed should be slow, otherwise it will deflect, affecting the material, strength and performance. Before the end of pouring, the on-site temperature must be kept above 5°C. If the on-site temperature is low, heating protection measures can be taken, otherwise it will cause retardation and reduce product performance.

3. Maintenance

After the pouring material hardens, the surface of the construction body should be covered with polyethylene plastic film immediately, and the demoulding time should be no less than 96 hours after pouring at 20°C for 48 hours. The temperature should be below 20°C. During the maintenance process, continue to cover with polyethylene plastic film and wet straw bag castables. After wet curing, strict heat curing must be carried out, and it can be put into use only after passing the baking process.
