What Is Aluminum Silicate Fiber?

Aug 08, 2024

The shape and color of aluminum silicate fibers are similar to cotton. It is an amorphous ceramic fiber felt, mainly composed of alumina and silica, and sometimes contains a small amount of iron oxide, titanium dioxide, calcium oxide and other substances. It can be divided into four categories according to composition and content: standard (ordinary) aluminum silicate fiber, high-purity aluminum silicate fiber, high-purity aluminum silicate fiber and high-purity aluminum zirconium silicate fiber.

It has excellent thermal insulation properties, good acid and alkali corrosion resistance and excellent chemical stability. Electrical insulators have good sound absorption properties and can absorb more than 80% of medium and high frequency waves above 500Hz. Usually used above 800℃. Mullite fiber is a fiber with a polycrystalline structure. The main crystal phase is mullite microcrystals. As a stable phase in the binary system of silicon oxide and alumina, mullite fiber has low activity and poor recrystallization ability. Therefore, mullite fiber has good high temperature resistance. The use temperature is 1500-1700°C, but when the temperature is higher than 1500°C, the crystal grains grow and lose high-temperature mechanical properties. When the temperature reaches about 1830°C, it quickly decomposes into alumina and liquid phase.
