Why Ceramic Fiber Modular Furnace Linings Need Blankets

Jul 08, 2022

With the rapid development of modern industry and the need for energy conservation and emission reduction. Ceramic fiber modules have become standard products for high temperature heating equipment insulation. Correspondingly, the inquiries for ceramic fiber modules are also increasing day by day. Many customers and friends will have doubts after reading the quotation. Flat blankets and compensation blankets are not in our inquiry scope. Why are these two more items? Just because the ceramic fiber module is a fixed partner with the tiled blanket and the compensation blanket, it cannot be separated. This also starts with the structure of the ceramic fiber module itself.

NO.1 Reasons why you should match a blanket

The ceramic fiber module is made by folding and packing the corresponding grade of refractory fiber blanket. Due to the high porosity of the fiber interwoven structure, the low thermal conductivity and the good heat insulation effect; and because the natural coke gemstone and coal gangue are used as raw materials, the refractoriness is high; in addition, the refractory fiber module has good flexibility, and can be arbitrarily designed according to the size of the kiln. For this reason, the refractory fiber lining structure can achieve good sealing.

On the one hand, the ceramic fiber module adopts a pre-pressed structure. After installation, cut the packing tape, and the module and the module will be squeezed together laterally, so as to reduce the gap ratio as much as possible;

On the other hand, because there is no pre-pressure between the upper row module and the lower row module, the module will have a shrinkage rate of about 3% after being heated. In this way, even if the modules between the rows are installed tightly, there will still be gaps between the upper and lower rows after the furnace is started. The flame jumps into the interior of the furnace lining through the gap, and the anchors are burned and the module falls off, which will cause irreversible damage to the entire refractory furnace lining. Therefore, in order to increase the sealing performance of the refractory fiber lining, a plug compensation blanket should be added between the upper row modules and the lower row modules.

NO.2 How to use it together

Compensation blankets are generally made of 20mm thick fiber blankets, which are aligned and folded and laid on top of the lower row modules, extruded to about 25mm, and the upper row modules are installed on the upper part. In the same way, in order to ensure sufficient compactness, a tiled blanket will be laid between the module and the furnace wall steel plate, generally two layers of 30mm or one layer of 50mm.

The cost ratio between the module and the compensation blanket and the tiled blanket is about 30:2:1. It can be seen that the compensation blanket and the tiled blanket account for a small proportion of the cost of the entire insulation layer, but the service life and insulation effect will be very large.
