01 Hygroscopic concept

Moisture absorption is one of the indicators of the physical properties of fibers, which refers to the ability of materials to absorb moisture in the air. The ability of fibrous materials to absorb moisture from a gaseous environment is generally referred to as hygroscopicity. This property and the chemical composition of the material are related to the structure.

If there are many capillary pores, its hygroscopic ability is relatively strong, and it is also related to the diameter and structure of the capillary pores. Hygroscopicity is different from water absorption, which refers to the property of a material to absorb water when it comes in contact with liquid water.

02 Hygroscopic properties of ceramic fiber blankets

a. The relationship between the index of ceramic fiber blanket and hygroscopicity

Storage time in humid air can affect the moisture absorption rate of fibers. Mechanical indicators such as tensile strength, fatigue and bending fatigue strength, and wear resistance of ceramic fibers are closely related to fiber moisture absorption. When the moisture absorption rate of the fiber exceeds the allowable limit, the above-mentioned mechanical and electrical properties will be significantly reduced.

b. Control the relative humidity in the production workshop

Due to the repulsion of the same sex by electrostatic charges, the fibers in the yarn are often loosened, and in severe cases, the production cannot be carried out normally. Therefore, the air is usually kept at a certain relative humidity to facilitate the elimination of static electricity. At the same time, an antistatic agent should be added to the mixture.
