Our reasons why gas logs are a great alternative to wood burning fireplaces

Jul 28, 2022

1) No clutter

Gas logs burn very cleanly and do not produce any of the smoke or ash typically associated with burning wood.

You don't have to look after the fire, clean the ashes, or wait for the fire to go out completely before leaving the house.

You also don't have to stock wood on hand, eliminating the possibility of termites and critters entering your home.

2) Cost-effective

The cost of maintaining a safe wood-burning fireplace, along with the cost of wood, can add up quickly.

Gas logs are a more affordable option as you don't have to pay for ongoing maintenance, cleaning, wood and fire starters.

Among wood, natural gas, and liquid propane, natural gas is often the most affordable option.

3) Save time

Not only are gas logs an inexpensive way to enjoy the fire, they also take less time to install and maintain.

You can simply turn on a gas stove when you're ready to start a fire and turn it off when you're done, whereas wood-burning fireplaces take time to prepare, maintain, and cool.

Hours of your day can be spent stacking wood in the hearth, building a fire, waiting for it to burn, and putting it out properly. Once the ashes have cooled, you also have to remove the ashes, which can be very laborious and messy.

Gas logs allow you to enjoy the fire at any time, short or long term, while eliminating the potential risk of hot ash and sparks escaping from the hearth area and igniting a fire.

Safety Warning

Gas logs are used in existing wood burning fireplaces with functional chimneys. They should not be used in gas fireplaces unless they are supplied with a gas fireplace or have been pre-approved by the fireplace and gas log manufacturer.

Before you install any type of gas logger in your home, be sure to check local code requirements. Some cities and states have restrictions on ventless gas logs and the type of chimney required for vented sets.

Fire is fire, whether it's wood or gas, so you'll still need a fully functioning smoke and carbon monoxide detector in your home.

Inspect gas logs annually to ensure connections are secure and gas lines and hoses are in good repair. If you have a vented set, you need to inspect and clean your chimney at least once a year.
