01--Modern gas fireplace log set consists of ceramic logs, like wooden logs, placed on a steel grid. Below the grate, the gas is distributed through a layer of sand with special "glowing embers" which, when operating behind a fire screen, provide the warmth of the fire while being virtually indistinguishable from burning wood.
