Pipeline Insulation Construction Of Ceramic Fiber Blanket

Apr 19, 2022

There are many kinds of thermal insulation materials used in the construction of industrial high-temperature equipment and pipeline thermal insulation projects, and the methods vary with the materials. If you don't pay enough attention to details during construction, you will not only waste materials, but also cause refurbishment, and even cause certain damage to equipment and pipes. The correct construction method can often get twice the result with half the effort.

Ceramic fiber blankets, also known as aluminum silicate fiber blankets, are called ceramic fiber blankets because one of the main components is alumina, and alumina is the main component of Ceramic. Ceramic fiber blankets are mainly divided into ceramic fiber blown blankets and ceramic fiber spunn blankets. Ceramic fiber spun blankets are better than ceramic fiber blown  blankets in thermal insulation performance due to long fibers and small thermal conductivity. Most insulation pipeline constructions use ceramic fiber spun blankets.

Pipeline insulation construction of ceramic fiber blanket:

Tools: ruler, sharp knife, galvanized wire

Steps:

① Clean the old body and sundries of the insulation material on the surface of the pipeline

② Cut the ceramic fiber blanket according to the diameter of the pipe (do not tear it by hand, use a ruler and a knife)

③ Wrap the blanket around the pipe, close to the pipe wall, pay attention to the seam ≤5mm, keep it flat

④ Bundling galvanized iron wires (bundling spacing ≤ 200mm), the iron wire should not be continuously wound in a spiral shape, the screw joint should not be too long, and the screw joint should be inserted into the blanket

⑤In order to achieve the required thickness of construction and multi-layer operation, it is necessary to carry out staggered joints and fill joints to ensure smoothness

The metal protective layer can be selected according to the actual situation, generally using glass fiber cloth, glass fiber reinforced plastic, galvanized iron sheet, linoleum, aluminum sheet, etc. It is required that the wrapped ceramic fiber blanket is firm and free of voids and leaks.

During construction, care should be taken not to step on or roll the ceramic fiber blanket, and try to avoid rainwater and other intrusion.
