The difference between ceramic fiberboard and calcium silicate board

May 28, 2025

For industrial furnace insulation, many customers are confused about the difference between ceramic fiberboard and calcium silicate board. These two products have different properties and methods of use. Here is some information for you to learn about these products and make them suitable for specific applications. Below we compare these materials in terms of heat resistance, expansion resistance, reuse performance, transportation, storage and construction characteristics.

Heat resistance

Ceramic fiberboard: Ceramic fiberboard, as an important thermal insulation material for industrial kilns, has significant thermal shock resistance. In other words, this product can cope with the cold and hot conditions very well. Therefore, ceramic fiber board will not crack during use.

Calcium silicate board: Because calcium silicate board is a granular product, the thermal shock resistance of the product is much lower than that of ceramic fiber board. Calcium silicate board in the production process needs to add a certain amount of fiber to strengthen.

Resistance to swelling

Ceramic fiberboard: SUNTHERM ceramic fiberboard has high strength and toughness thanks to high-quality fiber materials. When the customer uses the product as the insulation lining, it can absorb the expansion force generated by the refractory brick or refractory castable during the heating process in time.

Calcium silicate board: Compared with ceramic fiber board, this product is more prone to cracks. This will affect the strength and use effect of calcium silicate board.
