What Are The Differences Between Ceramic Fiber Cotton And Rock Wool?

Aug 17, 2023

Both ceramic fiber bulk and rock wool have the characteristics of high temperature resistance, and can also be used in single crystal furnaces, metallurgical casting, petroleum cracking and space technology, ablation resistance, high temperature resistance and heat insulation materials; sound absorption materials and heat insulation materials for buildings and equipment .The differences between them are mainly reflected in the following three categories:

Production process:

Ceramic fiber loose bulk is made by melting high-purity clay clinker, alumina powder, silica powder, chrome sand and other raw materials in an industrial electric furnace at high temperature to form a fluid.

Then will use compressed air to spray or use the spinning machine to spin the silk into a fiber shape, and collect the cotton form ceramic fiber bulk.

Fiber cotton can be further processed into fiber blankets, boards, paper, cloth, ropes and other products.Ceramic fiber is a high-efficiency thermal insulation material, which has the characteristics of light weight, high strength, oxidation resistance, low thermal conductivity, good flexibility, corrosion resistance, small heat capacity and sound insulation.

Rock wool is an inorganic fiber made from natural rocks such as basalt, dolomite, iron ore, bauxite, etc. After processing, the fibers can be made into various products such as plates, pipes, felts, belts, etc., which should be used for heat insulation, fire prevention, sound absorption, and can be the earthquake resistance of construction and industrial equipment, pipelines, and kilns.

Performance difference:

The life of ceramic fiber bulk is longer than that of rock wool, and it has more advantages in fiber toughness. The thermal conductivity of ceramic fiber cotton is lower. In addition, the highest temperature of ceramic fiber cotton is above 1000 degrees. Commonly used are Type 1050 and Type 1230, while the highest temperature of rock wool is about 600 degrees.

Temperature Differences :

Ceramic fiber cotton can be used for low temperature insulation at 200 degrees, medium temperature insulation at 500 degrees, and fire insulation at 1000 degrees, while rock wool is generally used for heat preservation at about 500 degrees.
