Ceramic fiber is considered as a high-tech product, which is made by burning various raw materials together. Most often we are talking about the use of aluminum oxide and silicon oxide. They are considered the main ones in the production of such a product.
However, to give additional qualities, the technology provides for the addition of some auxiliary components, such as molybdenum, zirconium oxide, beryllium, thorium and similar refractory metals. Their use makes it possible to significantly increase the fire resistance of ceramic fiber by increasing the temperature exposure limits up to 2700 degrees. For domestic use, such metals are not used in the composition, because due to their availability, the cost of production increases significantly.
Ceramic fiber is characterized by such parameters as:
high strength, immunity to mechanical impact;
resistance to aggressive chemicals;
low thermal conductivity;
ability to withstand temperatures up to +2000 degrees;
For this reason, ceramic fiber is used mainly in responsible work, where its costs are justified by the complexity of the operating conditions. For example, in high-temperature heat generators, in the space industry, nuclear power, machine tool construction.
