Clean the chimney thoroughly before installing new logs, even if you are not using a fireplace. It's amazing what comes out of unused chimneys. It is very important not to skip this step as any creosote build-up could cause a chimney fire due to the heat generated by the log group. The combustion chamber should also be as clean as possible before installation. This will make it easier and cleaner for your installer.
Clean up the area around the fireplace so that your installers have plenty of room to work. They need to lay out the logs when they unpack them. An uncluttered area will speed up installation so you can enjoy your fireplace as early as possible.
If you are installing propane, make sure your propane tank has enough fuel so that installers can properly inspect valves and lines for potential leaks.
If the gas line is installed at the same time as the log, clean the area where the line will run before the installer arrives. Make sure they have access to all areas of the yard, attic, or crawl space as needed.
Finally, put away the axe, igniter, gloves, and ash tray, because you will no longer need them and enjoy your new gas log!
