The Basics of Ceramic Fiber Fireplace Logs

Oct 20, 2022

Ceramic fiber is a lightweight and cardboard-like material. Gas fireplace logs made from ceramic fibers tend to be less expensive due to the strength of their material. Although they are light and may appear easy to handle, it is recommended that you wear gloves when handling them. Ceramic fibers can irritate your skin. Gloves can protect you from allergic reactions.

It is very interesting to note that ceramic fiber gas logs are very porous. This means that they all have small holes in their surface. Therefore, they can absorb odors, dust or stray animal hair in the air. So, if you like to cook with strong flavors like curries, onions, garlic or fish, be aware that your log may smell like your dinner for the next few weeks.

They are individually cast from real tree samples or made from highly detailed moulds to capture the unique characteristics of wood in nature. The refractory ceramic fiber logs are then hand painted to further detail the marking, pitting and coloring of the wood to create a true-looking replica. When shopping for a log set, you'll notice that there are a variety of replicated woods such as red oak, golden oak, juniper, driftwood, and birch to choose from.

Despite their low price, they are durable. Ceramic fibers may be thin, but they can withstand high temperatures for long periods of time. When the ceramic log burns, it is like real wood burning. What's better than burning solid wood? Burn uncut "wood"!
