Can a ventless Gas Fireplace make you sick?

Jan 09, 2024

When the air in your home is allowed to circulate freely, it can actually bring dust and other harmful particles into your living space. This causes breathing problems for many homeowners. In addition, when a homeowner does not use a ventilation system to properly ventilate their heating appliance there could be carbon monoxide buildup. This gas is odorless and can kill you in high levels.

Many people believe that because a ventless fireplace has a safety pilot light, it doesn't need to be vented. However, any time you have an open flame, even if it's just a little one like in a ventless appliance, carbon monoxide can still be produced.

Because the ventless fireplace does not have a flue or chimney, it requires less maintenance than those that do. However, they should be cleaned at least once per year to prevent carbon monoxide buildup and other problems associated with this type of heating appliance.
